PDF thumbnails and previews in Windows File Explorer
See the first page of every PDF in the folder itself, and a larger view of the one you select in the preview pane. No Acrobat, and no browser tab for each file.

Drag the divider. The same folder, before and after Design Previewer.
Why PDF thumbnails do not show in Windows
Windows only shows PDF thumbnails when a PDF program provides them. The option in Adobe Acrobat Reader is off by default and often stops working, which leaves every PDF with the same icon.
Design Previewer shows the first page of each PDF as its thumbnail, whichever PDF reader you use.
First page, drawn for you
A PDF needs no preview saved inside. The page is drawn with the PDF engine built into Windows.
Fast on large documents
Only what the first page needs is read, so a 300 MB PDF takes a few megabytes.
Preview pane included
Select a PDF and press Alt+P for a larger view beside the folder, without opening a reader.
No Adobe Reader required
Nothing else has to be installed or switched on, and PDFs still open in whatever program you prefer.
